Global Hairdresser of the Year, Phillip Wilson visits Balance Hair Spa.

Today our team of hair designers were treated to a cutting workshop by the International Creative Director of Colorproof Evolved Color Care, Phillip Wilson.

Phillip Wilson launched his career as a hairdresser in the trendy west end of London training with grand masters from all over Europe. Since emigrating to the United States, Wilson has become a global Industry icon.

Phillip’s resume is long and varied, including experience as an elite salon owner, creative director, platform artist and the artistic consultant for some of the most notable names in the Industry. Voted one of the most influential hairdressers of the past 100 years by Modern Salon magazine, he remains one of the most published editorial hairstylists in the world. Wilson is recognized for his extraordinary talent, creative passion, and boundless energy.

This was Phillip's second visit to our salon in only 7 months, the only salon he choose to visit twice. It was an honor to have such a talented artist sharing his knowledge. He reminded us that we are the last raw form of artists on the planet. No other artist creates a masterpiece every hour on the hour.

TWO OF OUR HAIR SPECIALISTS ATTEND SPRING TRENDS WORKSHOP AT HOPE FOR BEAUTY.

On Monday April 29th Megan and Annie were honored to do a Spring Trends hands on training with Teri Dougherty, Modern Salon Magazine - 2008 Colorist of the Year. This workshop featured new trends for this spring with influences right off the fashion runways. These new trends include new color blocking techniques for soft dimensional color and block cutting to make a long layered contemporary bob.  Megan describes these new trends as “soft tone color patterns with less bold color contrast”. Next time you’re in the salon ask Annie or Megan to share their experience with you.

This April, help us support our community by supporting Mommy's Light

For the past five years, we have proudly supported Mommy's Light, a children's charity that is near and dear to our hearts. This wonderful organization helps bereaved children who have lost their mothers by continuing cherished family traditions and providing bereavement support. The annual Mommy's Light 5K & 1 Mile Fun Race is one of the charity's largest events.

How can you help?

1.  At your next appointment, purchase a "Heart for Mommy" for as little as a $1 donation.  Fill out your card "In Honor of" a family member, friend or loved one, or "In Memory of" a special person who has passed. We will display all of the cards in our salon.  Please help us reach our goal of 100 Hearts for Mommy cards!

2.  Join us for the 9th Annual Mommy's Light 5K & 1 Mile Race on Saturday, April 27 (rain or shine), in Eagleview Town Center, 540 Wellington Square, Exton 19341.  Bring your whole family to this family fitness and fun event with music, dog tricks, a Brickside Grille hot breakfast for registered race participants, and many goodies donated by our food sponsors.  In addition to the 5K Run/Walk, there is a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk, a Stroller Start, and the Tot Trot (ages 2-5) at 9:50am,  Last year, there were over 700 participants! For more information or to pre-register, visit ACTIVE.com  or mail-in preregistration form [pdf].

Model Call Announced.

Balance Hair Spa Model Call!!

Our team of designers are working on creating the most up to date looks and trends in the art of hair. We are looking for hair models to use for upcoming photo shoots and competitions. All models must give our designers complete freedom to create the looks needed for these competitions and photos. This includes coloring, cutting, retexturing of the hair, makeup and wardrobe. This would be a great opportunity for someone who is currently in beauty school to learn how a look transforms for photos.

We will be hosting a model call on Monday February 18th from 4-8pm. If you are seriously interested, please stop by between those hours for a quick snapshot of you and to answer a couple questions.

Models will not be paid for their services, but will be compensated with products and a photo of your finished look.

Visit Chester County's local Toys for Tots website or donate online.

Not sure which toys are needed?  Here's a few tips from our local Toys for Tots Coordinator:

0 to 2 Years Infant Group
Usually have a large abundance of toys donated for this group.

3 to 7 Years Group
Always have a large abundance of toys donated, as this is the easiest group to buy for.

8 to 12 Years Group
One of our tougher groups during the collection times. This age group may be harder to buy for.  Games, arts and crafts, books and sports balls are all good for this group.

12 to 14 Years Group
This group can be extremely tough to buy things for, so donations here may be needed most. Though age-appropriate toys are expensive or tough to find, things like arts and crafts, watches, bath sets, cosmetics, books and backpacks are good things for this group.

Hurry in! Toy drop-off ends on Friday, December 7.

Bringing the Joy of Christmas and delivering a message of Hope to needy children.
